Finishing
6.Before staining the guitar, the
body is sanded to 600-grit with
intermittent wipe-downs with a wet
cloth to raise the grain. This
process provides a very smooth
surface. The gel-stain is mixed to a
very beautiful amber color which
will make the flame "pop."
7.The gel-stain provides a very
even, deep finish which accents
the beauty of the wood. Note the
awesome binding effect which is
the result of masking the edge of
the Curly Maple. The Eastern Hard
Rock Maple being used for the top
shows a gentle, but deep grain.
This species has been used to add
a percussive "snap" to the Alder
which is being used for the top.
8. A test-fit of the hardware shows
how the guitar will appear when
finished. Only classic Nitro-Cellulose
Laquer is used on Flat Earth Guitars.
We will wait two weeks before
wet-sanding and buffing.
