This is the first prototype of Flat Earth Classic Guitars- the culmination of five years
of research and experiments. Made out of modeling polymer, it is the testing unit
which proved out electro-acoustic principles which would eventually find their way into
the Flat Earth Guitars.
1. Witness the construction of Flat
Earth's solid body...The Flat Earth
Heresy Guitar! The joinery of the
body blank halves is very important.
Without a good backbone, the
construction will be suspect. Here
the Mahogany body has been glued,
cut, and routed.
2. For the top of the guitar, an
insane selection of highly-flamed
Eastern Hard Rock Maple! The 1/2"
top is planed, bookmatched, glued,
and lightly sanded.
3. A template is taped to the top for
routing. On this guitar, two pickups
will be used; it would be a shame to
cut away any more of the top for a
three pickup version!
4. A top view of the routed guitar.
Now comes the time-consuming part
of the build...
5. The comfort of the Flat Earth
Heresy is derived from the carved
front and back. This process is done
carefully, by hand. The process
takes from four to eight hours,
depending on complexity.
I. CONNOTATION AND DEFINITION
The term heresy connotes, etymologically, both a choice and the thing chosen.
